About the Book

PHOTOGRAPHIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Many of the photographs in this gallery came from the John Oxley Library viz; abbreviation JOL. They were part of the Author's research which covered the two books, "Anakie the Sapphire Fields of Central Queensland" and, "Images of the Anakie Sapphire Fields". Permissions reference X61/5/137.
Where a photograph is shown as LC Ball - these came form the Queensland Government Mining Journal 1913/1914. Two copies of which were gifted to the Author by the then, Queensland Department of Mines Historical Section; they are noted as QGMJ. The Journals are still in the Author's possession. Lionel Clive Ball, ( B.E. A.I.E.A) was the Chief Queensland Government Geologist and a dab hand with a camera in that era. He captured the Sapphire Mining and lifestyle remarkably well.
Some Photographs came from the Anakie State School and private sources such as the late Messrs. Roy Spencer, James Kazanjian, Roy McKinney. Many were duplicated both in the Queensland Government Mining Journal, and also held at the John Oxley Library. Some were also in private hands. Dated where possible, the Images were captured 100 years or more ago, and there are two of Retreat Creek dated 1898 around the setting of the Author's Gemfields Novel, "Stone Country".
The Photographs from the John Oxley Library are "permission" photographs. Anyone wishing to use these images outside the Author's research and books updated into the electronic age, must obtain their own permissions otherwise they will be in breach of copyright laws.
